My work is informed by an intermingling of art, history and nature. Using traditional materials and found objects I create whimsical, semi-abstract landscapes and figures. Inspirations include the Taino cave art of the Caribbean and patterns found in the nature.
My training as a naturalist influences my art. You will often find me with my sketchbook, hiking and backpacking throughout California or exploring the city of San Francisco.
Descriptors of my work:
• Realism mixed with whimsy
• Reductive, minimal approach
• Rely on color and line drawings for impact
• Opt for close views, small actions, intimacy
Projects: Current projects include two “New World” series of miniature works on paper.
Experiments: I continue to push the boundaries between complementary and non-complementary colors, drawing on the juxtaposition of colors in flora like crotons and Wandering Jews, and also experiment with media and techniques: oils, watercolors, spray-painting, chance, line drawings and collages.
